When the name 'Apkororo" was mentioned, everyone was expecting a lively act from the much talked about comedian. But his performance in front of the new president Muhamadu Buhari and a host of other heads of state wasn't encourage. You could tell from the faces of the audience.
Fellow comedian Enenche talks about Akpororo's performance, he shared this on his social media account:
I didn't watch the Inaugural gala nite that was held last night, but my phones kept ringing, facebook inbox was full... I was at a birthday at Sheraton.
I kept getting message; "Enenche where are you"?
Well, let's leave my brother alone. There are factors that may lead to difficulties in impressing your audience.
These factors among others are;
1. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE.
A comedian must know his audience, he must read read about this audience. He must trace the sensibilities of his audience and avoid trading on it.
2. TALK TO YOUR AUDIENCE FANTASY.
Your audience must see you as one of theirs who is out to project their fantasies and interests... there is a tin line between this and outright sycophancy... watch it.
Your audience sensibilities is supreme and must be guided with everything at your disposals.
3. COMEDY IS JOKE, BUT JOKES MUST TIMES ARE NOT COMEDY.
Comedy is not joke, but your ability to being funny. A joke can market at point A but fall flat at point B.
Build your comedy around realities and not jokes. Joke fails.
Jokes should be reserved as an artillery fire power, jokes must be a backup... before unleashing them, you must put the audience in the mood of accepting them.
4. COMEDY MUST BE WITHIN AND PROJECT THE AIM THAT GATHERED THE AUDIENCE.
You must know the end product your audience is out to achieve and project them in your comedy.
5. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF THE EFFECTS THE JOKE WOULD GENERATE, DON'T SAY IT.
It is better to keep quiet, than say what would embarrass you and those who gave you microphone.
6. AUDIENCE VARIES, SO DO COMEDY AND COMEDIAN VARIES.
Know the audience that fits into your area of strength... you are not called to trill every audience.
.... to be continued.
