A woman’s anatomy is much more complex than that of a man more-so because most of our organs are internal, this however should be no excuse for a woman to not have knowledge of her organs and that is why we present KNOW YOUR BODY a SuperWoman initiative to outline short basic things every girl should know about her body. Today let us look at THE HYMEN.
] The hymen is a piece of tissue that lines the vaginal opening. it can be thick or thin
] It has an opening the size of your finger (kinda like a doughnut shape) – that allows menstrual blood to flow and tampons to be inserted in.
] Some girls are born without a hymen
] Like eyes, noses and bosoms, every hymen is a little different.
] Many women who have never had intercourse don’t bleed during first intercourse because their hymen has already been disrupted.
] The pain experienced by many women during their first time is not because the hymen is breaking. The tissues of the hymen wears away as a girl grows into a lady so usually what is left is very thin or nothing at all.
] The Hymen is named after the Greek god of marriage
] It comes in different shapes; the opening may not always look like a doughnut hole. In some women, it has a ladder-like appearance with bands of tissue extending from one side to the other. In others, it resembles a honeycomb with multiple small openings. And in rare cases, an estimated one in 200, the hymen’s single opening is so small that fingers, tampons, and erections may not be able to enter comfortably
